AI Implementation
AI Readiness Assessment for Small Businesses
"Should I be using AI yet?" Most founders ask this. The honest answer is: depends on whether AI fits the work you actually do. This 10-minute assessment scores ten readiness dimensions and tells you which workflow to start with — or whether to wait.
Who this is for
Founders running $250k–$25M businesses considering an AI investment in the next 12 months. The assessment works whether you're AI-skeptical or AI-curious — it tells you the honest highest-leverage starting move.
The 10 readiness dimensions
Repetitive admin — does your team spend 10+ hours/week on tasks that follow a pattern?
Sales support — does your sales team need research or proposal help that could be drafted?
Customer service — do you answer the same 20 questions every week?
Content production — do you produce content at any volume?
SEO and research — do you need to research markets, competitors, or topics?
Internal documentation — is your team's knowledge in heads or in docs?
Data quality — is the data AI would touch clean and structured?
Privacy and risk — do you handle data that requires consent management?
Staff AI fluency — do at least two team members use AI tools weekly?
Tool ownership — who owns the AI tools (founder, ops lead, third party)?
Output levels
Level 1 — AI Beginner: low fluency, no infrastructure. Start with the 7-Part Prompt Builder + Master Prompts.
Level 2 — AI-Assisted Operator: fluency in 1–2 areas, no systems yet. Start with prompt SOPs for content/sales.
Level 3 — Automation-Ready Business: repetitive workflows + clean data. Start with Marketing Automation + CRM AI flows.
Level 4 — Custom AI Workflow Candidate: high-leverage repeated workflows that templates can't solve. Talk to us about Custom AI Agents.
Level 5 — Internal AI Agent Candidate: complex multi-step workflows worth building software for. Talk to us about Custom AI Agents + AI Implementation.
Talkerstein recommendation
If you score Level 1–2, do not buy a Custom AI Agent. The ROI is not there yet. Spend $0 on the Prompt Vault + Prompt Builder, train the team for 30 days, re-assess. If you score Level 3–4 and have a clear repetitive workflow worth $5k+/month of staff time, build the workflow. Level 5 — call us.

FAQ
My team has never used AI. Should I start?
Yes — at Level 1. Start the team on ChatGPT or Claude for 30 days for 2–3 tasks each. Measure honestly. Re-assess.
Should I build a custom AI agent?
Only if you have a repeated workflow that touches $5k+/month of staff time AND that workflow has a clear, deterministic structure. Otherwise prompt SOPs are cheaper and 80% as good.
Is AI safe for my data?
Depends on the tool, the plan, and the workflow. Enterprise ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini all offer no-training-on-your-data plans. Public free tiers may train on your inputs. Our Internal AI Policy Template covers this.
